Dulia

Dulia is an RTS award-winning short documentary that follows the everyday lives of monks at Belmont Abbey in Hereford. The film explores how they navigate the tension between a secluded, contemplative existence and the realities of contemporary life.

We spent four days living at Belmont Abbey, rising at 6am for morning prayer and immersing ourselves in the monks' daily routine. Removed from the distractions of modern life and surrounded by the stillness of the Welsh countryside, the experience was both challenging and unfamiliar.

It reinforced what I value most about filmmaking — placing myself in uncomfortable and unfamiliar environments, working instinctively in the moment to capture honest, observational footage, and discovering how creative limitations can shape and strengthen the story.
